Hygiene & The Chalice

Hygiene & The Chalice: As we enter the Winter, with an increased risk of ‘flu and other infections a few concerns have been raised about the way we receive Wine at Communion. As a matter of note, the most effective way of preventing the spread of infections when receiving Communion Wine is by sipping directly from the chalice and not by intinction (when the wafer is dipped into the wine) - this also safeguards those requiring gluten-free wafers. More detail on the reasoning for this can be found in this helpful article from the Diocese In Europe. Please may we all be mindful of the needs and vulnerabilities of all who attend our services.
